Skip back two weeks when things were calm for us here in England, when the advice was that you could still travel. During this period I was lucky enough to experience the Italian City of Florence, situated in the region of Tuscany.
For my short time spent here I visited galleries and saw the most amazing architecture, as well as some incredible views. I feel as though I have experienced a snippet of the true Italian culture, spending most of my money on pizza, gelato and beer, because what else would I do in Italy?
I am already missing the travel lifestyle, however I can only be grateful that I made it back home before the covid-19 situation got worse, and hopeful once everything calms back down to normal someday I will get to explore more of this beautiful country.
I discovered Florence to have a confident sense of cultural contrast to Norwich & Norfolk, with the Italian city feeling more 'vibrant' & 'lively' and less like a commuter city. For this reason I thoroughly enjoyed the relevantly intriguing street photography that I was able to capture, while absorbing the true Italian lifestyle. While exploring I discovered many fascinating people, artists on the streets surrounded by their works, all kinds of dogs, and people with an individual flair for fashion, as well as the beggars that would ask for euros. Just while walking from one place to the next I was purposefully photographing little corners and details of Florence, considering the Italians I came across' daily lives. At times the street photography was difficult, as somebody would move too quickly and I would struggle to capture a more technically pleasing composition. On the other hand, while in Florence I have discovered a new passion for this photographic genre, capturing florence in all its colours, cultures, people & places.
In this post I share my photo diary from my trip to Firenze, with images that I have hand picked as my favourites, that will find their way into my editorial work for my second year major project, as a part of my Extended Level 3 Photography Diploma.
